Premiere: StrateJacket Shares New Live Video for “Dreamcatcher”

Debut Album Bad Start Out on October 11th via EDGEOUT Records

Bay Area-based alt rock trio StrateJacket debuted earlier this year with a self-titled EP, pulling from alt rock and pop punk touchstones in bursts of propulsive energy and insistent hooks. Later this week, they’re set to return with their first full-length record, Bad Start, out on October 11th via EDGEOUT Records. The album features all of the tracks from their EP, along with the two singles they released this summer, “End of Time” and “Dreamcatcher.” Today, they’re sharing the accompanying live video for “Dreamcatcher,” premiering with Under the Radar.

“Dreamcatcher” lets off on the punk chants and barrelling tempo of much of the band’s other singles. Instead, the track leans on a killer bassline and the band’s penchant for massive melodies, building upon a bouncing groove until they soar into the track’s towering chorus. The results feel like a marriage of Green Day’s theatrical alt rock side with the bass-heavy rush of early Arctic Monkeys, especially given how much frontman Jackson Roemers’ vocals recall Billie Joe Armstrong. It is already becoming a highlight for the band’s live shows, showing off the band at their most melodic and infectious.

Roemers says of the track, “I wrote ‘Dreamcatcher’ inspired by a Wombats song called “Moving To New York.” I really liked the jangle pop vibe of the riff and wanted to do something a little different than the stuff we did on the rest of the record. There’s a little more groove in this song and it doesn’t come off as angry as some of the other songs tend to be.”

The band says of the track’s accompanying live video, “These types of gigs always bring out the best in us. When the house party wants a slapper, we play ‘Dreamcatcher.’”
